2nd Session begins, Wednesday, January 21 @ 6:30am. Sessions are every Wednesday 6:30-7:30am in the Pastoral Center, Rm 211B. Please contact steger.scott@principal.com with questions.

St. Ignatius of Loyola developed the Spiritual Exercises to help people to grow in their relationship with God and learn to listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit in their lives.  Ignatius explained that, just as we improve our bodily health through disciplined bodily exercises, we can improve our spiritual health through a disciplined approach called Spiritual Exercises. Fr. Mike will facilitate a 9-week program following a format that Ignatius called “Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life.”

Sessions will be on Tuesday evenings from 7pm-8:30pm. To ensure that all participants benefit fully from this experience, pre-registration is required and will be limited to approximately 30 attendees. However, before you register, please read the following to determine if the Exercises are right for you.

Participants must be open to a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship with God. Throughout the 9 weeks, participants will examine their consciences, meditate, contemplate, and pray at least an hour each day. The material, particularly at the beginning, can be very challenging. Participants must commit to attending weekly sessions, praying daily as directed, and sharing their experience with others.

Please register below or contact Fr. Mike if you should have any questions at: mrizzo@stedward.com

John Chapter 1 – Jesus as the Eternal Word of God and the Lamb of God

A Journey through John’s Gospel.  This retreat will teach you how to read John’s Gospel so that you can discover the profound theological discourse in the first eleven chapters which many refer to as ‘the Book of Signs’ because Jesus works seven miraculous signs in these chapters and the latter chapters 12‒21 which are often referred to as ‘the Book of Glory’ because Jesus speaks bout Glorifying His Father and the Father Glorifying the Son.

John Chapters 2-3 and 4 ‒ New wine, a New Temple and New Birth and rivers of living water.

The wedding feats at Cana presents more than just a miracle but it presents a model for salvation history because Christ has come

John Chapter 6 ‒ The Passover, Manna and the Bread of Life

The Bread of Life Sermon in John’s Gospel occurs when Jews were celebrating the Passover and it looks back to the Manna miracles, the Exodus rebellion and Jesus as the New Passover Lamb.

John Chapter 11 ‒ The 7th sign and Jesus’ statement ‘I am the resurrection and the Life’

John Chapters 12 and 17 ‒ The Hour of Glory and John’s theme of Glory in John’s Gospel.

John Chapters 19-20 ‒ The Cross and the Resurrection in John’s Gospel
