SPOTLIGHT
II
Session A – July 7 to July 18 & Session B –
July 21 to August 1
Our Summer School offers classes from Kindergarten to Eighth
Grade. Here are the classes and teachers in this week’s
spotlight.
MIDDLE SCHOOL JUMP START SCIENCE (6 th** to 8th Grades)
(Sessions A & B, M to F, 10:15AM – 12:00PM) One
of the greatest challenges middle school students face is
the Science Fair Project. Not only is the project a major
part of the science grade but for many students it is the
most stressful part of the first trimester! Our class allows
the student to explore, in depth, a small area of science
that is of interest to the student. The student is guided
through each aspect of scientific research, experimentation,
data collection/analysis, and data presentation. The intent
of this course is to make the student feel confident with
all of the steps and requirements of creating and presenting
a good Science Fair Project. If there is time, the student
will be given the opportunity to begin next school year’s
Science Fair Project.
Teacher: Ms. Katrina McKinney is credentialed, grades 6-12,
in the areas of science and mathematics. Ms. McKinney is an
experienced Science Fair coordinator and teacher. She has
taught many disciplines of science.
**If there is space available 6th grade students will attend
jump start science with the 7th and 8th graders. If not, middle
school preparatory science will be covered in their regular
class.

Grades 1-8 for Intervention and Enrichment.
The Clubs are extracurricular activities for 1st to 8th Graders.
There are a total of eight clubs all of which are offered
in the afternoon. This week, we have three clubs in the spotlight.
Singing Star Club (Sessions A & B, MWF, 12:45
PM to 2:45 PM)
During
the 2 week session we will be learning several songs of today's
and yesterdays greatest hits, focusing on vocal technique,
stage presence, and vocal phrasing (AKA how to make the song
unique and your own). At the end of the session we will be
putting on our very own showcase for family and
friends. This unique club offers kids a chance to be a star,
and everyone is guaranteed a solo who wants one. This warm,
supportive environment will not only be a wonderful way for
kids to branch out a try something new, but it is also a great
way to boost self confidence. Above all, the Sing Stars Club
is going to be fun....what a wonderful way to spend a summer!
