Summer School Program
SPOTLIGT
I
Session
A – July 7 to July 18 & Session B – July 21
to August 1
Here are some great reasons for your child to join our Summer
Program!
1. Dedicated experienced teachers and instructors who you
know and can trust.
2. Developed fun, challenging, and innovate curricula.
3. Doldrums. There are approximately 80 days of summer vacation.
That is a
very long time between classes.
Doesn’t it make sense to enroll your child in our Summer
Program? Give your child
the confidence he or she needs to succeed in the new school
year!
Our Summer School offers classes from Kindergarten to Eighth
Grade. Here are the
classes and teachers in this week’s spotlight.
KINDERGARTEN (for incoming TYKES and Kindergartners)
The
Kindergarten Summer School class is designed for children
going into Kindergarten. The program will allow children to
ease into the Kindergarten routine, get to know their fellow
classmates, and get to know one of the Kindergarten Teachers.
The children will do calendar activities in the morning, followed
by various Language Arts and math activities. The focus for
Language Arts will be on phonemic awareness, letters/sound
relationships, and additional pre- reading skills. For math,
the students will work on numbers, counting, patterns, and
use various math manipulatives. Throughout the day, children
will have opportunities to do music and movement activities,
developmental projects, and have physical education.
Teacher- Carissa Bennett taught two years in public school
before joining St. Edward the Confessor School. This will
be her second year teaching Kindergarten at St. Edward.
1st
Grade (for incoming First Graders)
Each day will start by reviewing the calendar and each child
will have an opportunity to share an item with the class.
The class will have a formal Language Arts lesson together
in the morning followed by six interactive centers in the
classroom. The centers will focus on phonics, writing, reading
and phonemic awareness. There will be a strong focus on pre-reading/reading
and writing skills. The children will have a formal math lesson
everyday that will be followed by a practice activity. Throughout
the day songs and other movement activities will be incorporated.
The children will end each day with a project that is linked
to a writing assignment.
Teacher- Jessica Capek. Mrs. Capek has taught kindergarten
at St. Edward the Confessor School for three years.
Summer School Principal
Miss Christine Brown has been a teacher at St. Edward the
Confessor for nine years. She has a multi-level K-12 teaching
credential and has been our Summer School Principal for the
past four years. Besides her administrative duties, Miss Brown
will be assisting classes by teaching small groups of students
in various core subjects.
The Clubs are extracurricular activities
for 1 to 8 Graders. There are a total of eight clubs all of
which are offered in the afternoon. This week, we have three
clubs in the spotlight.
Cooking & Baking Club (Sessions A & B, MWF,
12:45 PM to 2:45 PM)
The Cooking and Baking Club is a delicious hands-on adventure
in what kids love to eat every day. They will have the opportunity
to make some of their favorite dishes from scratch with emphasis
on variety, creativity, and teamwork.
Directing their efforts will be staffers Geri Martini (aka
“Gandma Geri) and Cate McManamon who between them have
over 90 years of home and professional food experience. Each
session will include chances to share and swap recipes and
play “Stump the Chefs” with unusual tools or ingredients
brought from home. Join us for memorable summer fun in the
kitchen.
