Academic Decathalon
The Academic Junior High Decathlon is a competition for students in grades 6-8 consisting of ten different events. Two of the events are team collaborative events (Logic Quiz, which is comprised of 20 rigorous higher level thinking questions and the SuperQuiz which contains 50 multiple choice questions on five broad topics). The remaining eight tests consist of Roman Catholic doctrine, English, Literature, Science, Math, Current Events, Social Studies, and Fine Arts (Art and Music) topics. Awards are given for individual and team performances. The St. Edward the Confessor Decathlon Team placed first in the diocesan competition and went on to win the state championship in Sacramento in May 2007.
Athletics
St. Edward staff believes that extracurricular opportunities should be available to boys and girls who wish to take advantage of these experiences. We believe that participation in extracurricular activities contributes to the development of self-confidence, leadership and the establishment of desirable interpersonal relations. Good sportsmanship, Christian conduct, and the spirit of Christian community are foremost. All students are guaranteed participation in all games, activities, classes, tournaments, and play-offs.
