Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. We have put together this page to help answer some of the most commonly asked questions we get at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church.
Can I get married at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church?
If you or your parents are an active member or you reside within the geographical boundaries you may request to have your wedding at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. You or your fiancé must be baptized Roman Catholic. If you meet these requirements, please complete the Proposed Wedding Information Form. You will also need to complete the Testimony of Freedom Form and have it witnessed by a Roman Catholic priest or notarized by a Notary Public.
What if we are not associated with St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church?
If you are a member of another Catholic parish or live within another Catholic parish boundary, you are responsible for providing a priest in good standing to perform your ceremony. You are also responsible to find a Catholic priest in good standing to collect all the required documents and prepare you for marriage. All priests performing these duties must also submit a letter of agreement to the pastor of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church (obtained from the parish secretary) that he will do all the preparations, along with a letter from his local bishop or religious superior stating that he is a priest in good standing if he is not a priest of the Diocese of Orange. The minimum donation for couples from outside St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church is $600.00. Please review our Policy and Procedures Letter.
What are the available times for weddings?
Weddings are usually scheduled at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Sundays are not available due to the many Masses celebrated in the Church. The 3:00 p.m. time is reserved for registered, active parishioners only. Why? Due to the high volume of requests, parishioners can't get a time slot for their marriage.
What if either my fiancé or I have been married before?
If either of you have been married before in the Catholic Church, a civil ceremony, or in another Christian Church, synagogue, or mosque, you must talk to one of the priests before any date for your wedding can be considered. It doesn't matter if you were married for only three hours or 30 years. Your honesty about previous marriages is very important. The priest will help you resolve any previous marriages.
How much does it cost?
Everything you are and everything you have. Marriage in the Catholic Church is a serious personal and spiritual commitment. You will be asked to give your all to your future spouse every day. As far as money goes, St. Edward the Confessor maintains all its buildings and services by donations. Your generous donation will be gratefully accepted. You can expect to spend about $1,000 for professional fees to musicians, coordinators, and gifts to the parish and priest who officiate at your wedding. If you have serious financial challenges, please speak to the priest officiating at your wedding prior to the date of the wedding.
