The mystery of the eucharist is the central liturgical mystery of our
faith since it is the mystery of God’s love and of Christ’s
abiding presence. It is the mystery of a God who nourishes us and promises
to be with us always. It is the paschal mystery of Christ’s death
and resurrection, for “each time you eat this bread and drink this
cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes” (1COR 11:26).
The
mystery of the eucharist is the mystery of a chosen people thanking their
God for benefits received, both personal and communal. It is the mystery
of a body broken and blood that was shed. It is the mystery of what we
are and what we receive. It is the mystery of Christ in us.
